British wool gives yarns flexibility, texture, coverage, and excellent performance. The natural coloured wools available also have design appeal and can be used to create distinctive effects.

The British countryside is home to many native sheep whose wool has developed over the centuries to protect them from the harshest weather. This wool is prized for its bulk and springy handle. It is ideally suited for carpets that will wear well and retain their wonderful appearance to give you lasting pleasure and comfort. The worlds leading manufacturers choose British wool for their quality ranges, confident in its abilities to perform.

Choosing Carpet

The two main methods for manufacturing carpet are tufting and weaving. Tufting is the most common method these days. Needles thread the yarn through a backing fabric, which is then coated with an adhesive. Another layer of backing is then applied, usually jute or in some cases polypropylene. The method of manufacture is less important than the two major factors that determine the quality of carpet.
These are:
1. The weight and density of the pile
2. The quality of the fibre

Some carpets are graded for their suitability for different applications. An experienced flooring consultant can advise which types of carpet are best for your application. Sometimes the most expensive option will not be the best choice for your requirements.

Grades of Carpet

* Medium Duty. Suitable for lounge and living rooms with light traffic flows (i.e. not suitable for households with lots of kids).

* Heavy Duty. Ideal for anywhere where there is a heavy flow of traffic. Suitable for hallways, lounge and living rooms for families with up to 2 – 3 kids.

* Extra Heavy Duty. Designed for lots of traffic. Use in hallways, busy living areas. Also suitable for some commercial offices and shops.
